Apple launches Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros

After several months of Merom being available, Apple has finally launched a notebook line using the processor. The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro comes in 3 default configurations:

  • 15″ 1440×960 display, 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 6x Dual-Layer SuperDrive, 128MB ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 - $1,999.00
  • 15″ 1440×960 display, 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 6x Dual-Layer SuperDrive, 256MB ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 - $2,499.00
  • 17″ 1680×1050 display, 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 8x Dual-Layer SuperDrive, 256MB ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 - $2,799.00

As you can see, the CPU isn’t the only new addition. The laptops also have more disk space, and the 15″ have dual-layer burners now. One negative thing I noticed was that the 7200RPM disk is no longer an option on the 15″ models, to get that you have to buy the 17″. However, even with that issue, I think the new MacBook Pros are a better value overall than the previous ones, and the major issue stopping me from getting one (the fact that they didn’t have Merom in them yet), has now been solved. Now the only thing stopping me is my current shortage of cash.
