Google launches Docs & Spreadsheets
Published October 11th, 2006 in Technology
Today, Google has merged Writely and Google Spreadsheets into one integrated package: Google Docs & Spreadsheets. This adds another office suite component, the word processor, to Google’s web 2.0 office application offerings.
If Google could produce or acquire a presentation application such as Thumbstacks, it will have the components that the majority of home and education users need for their daily work. Add in a web based database application builder like Coghead and it might even have a competitive offering for small businesses. These free, accessible anywhere web applications provide a level of convenience that simply isn’t achieved with traditional office software like Microsoft Office. Of course, for the power users of Office and the enterprises, this probably won’t cut it, but for everyone else it provides an excellent, affordable alternative.
