Ubuntu launches new desktop effects team

Mark Shuttleworth reports that a new team has been created to oversee the integration of new desktop effects into the Ubuntu Linux distribution. Specifically, this team is responsible for integrating XGL, AIGLX and Compiz into Ubuntu for ease of installation. This is definitely a good idea, because at the moment getting your native composited X server of choice and Compiz up can be quite daunting for a new user. (If you’re interested in seeing exactly how to do this, this post might be useful to you). This is definitely a good move, when you consider the high quality visual effects Mac OS X already has, and by all indications Vista will bring.
