Sony announces classic game download service

Following on the heels of the Wii virtual console and the Xbox live arcade, Sony has announced a new game download service to coincide with the release of the PlayStation 3. It will work with either the PS3, or the PC, and will allow you to download PSX games or UMDs and play them on a PSP. Now this is a good idea because it allows for easy access to classic game titles and might breathe life into the dead UMD movie format. I certainly wouldn’t mind downloading and playing the PSX Final Fantasy titles, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross again if the price was right. I also like the fact that it will be available through the PC as well, it might give me a reason to buy a PSP.
