Wii will have free online gaming

In a recent USA Today interview with Nintendo Of America president Fils-Aime, it was uncovered that the online gaming on the Wii will be free. From the article:

Q: How do you extend your online strategy to Wii?

A: It’s the same premise. We will offer online-enabled games that the consumers will not have to pay a subscription fee for. They’ll be able to enjoy that right out of the box. The Wii console is going to be Wi-Fi enabled, so essentially, you’ll be able to plug it in and go. It won’t have hidden fees or costs.

Well, this is good to hear, although not surprising considering that the DS also has a free online gaming strategy. If there’s one thing that will make the Wii overtake the Xbox 360 as the online gaming console, it will be giving away for free what Microsoft charges for.
