PAX venue will triple in size in 2007

Penny Arcade, a popular webcomic (actually I think it’s the most popular webcomic at the moment), has an expo every year which is fittingly named the Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX. PAX is an expo by gamers for gamers and is all about community. PAX tends to focus on things like LAN parties and gaming tournaments, and people who go there actually spend the bulk of their time playing games and having fun, not just waiting in line for exhibits. Anyway, as you probably already know by now, E3 was all but cancelled, and will no longer be the big gaming expo that it once was. As such, PAX has seen triple the applications for exhibitors for PAX 2007, since E3 2007 will not be accessible to the average gamer. One could conclude that since there will be triple the exhibitors in 2007, there will also be triple the attendees in 2007 as well. This year, PAX is on track to have over 17,000 attendees, so it wouldn’t be going too far to estimate a solid 60,000 attendees or more next year. That’s a lot of people for an expo. Nevertheless, Tycho and Gabe insist that PAX will stick to it’s roots and remain by gamers, for gamers. It’s all about the community, not just the exhibitors.
