I guess the exploding laptop hysteria has gone into full force now that the mainstream media finally picked it up (it only took them just over a month). The airline safety regulators have taken notice as well, and laptops may soon be banned on airlines entirely because of the potential for starting fires. Despite the fact that the chance of a fire is extremely low (the Federal Aviation Administration only recorded 60 incidents involving battery powered devices since 1991) the sensationalism the media has given this issue has caused them to consider banning them altogether. I sincerely doubt any airline will actually do this though, otherwise it’s competitors would suddenly look that much more attractive to the laptop toting executives that make up a large portion of it’s business.
