Google Talk adds new features
Published August 16th, 2006 in TechnologyGoogle Talk released a new version with some new features. They include:
- File transfers
- Voice mail
- Current music being listened to in the status
Unfortunately, none of these features work properly in other Jabber clients. Now I can understand why voice mail wouldn’t work, since voice is not part of the Jabber protocol. The current music being listened to is just a joke feature and could easily be implemented in any client with a plugin. But no support for file transfers? Jabber supports file transfers in the protocol. Google Talk should be compliant with the Jabber file transfer standard, seeing as how it is a Jabber service. And if they don’t want to do that, they should at least release versions of their own IM client for platforms other than Windows.
