Ubuntu launches IRC support group for new users
Published August 15th, 2006 in TechnologyThe Ubuntu New User Network (NUN) is the latest in the Ubuntu community’s pursuit to make Ubuntu dead easy for Linux newbies to learn and use. Basically, it’s a support group of Ubuntu users who volunteer their time to help new users with their Ubuntu experience. The media is a set of IRC channels, specifically a support channel where users can ask the volunteer mentors questions and get answers quickly, as well as a classroom channel where seminars will be given about how to do specific things in Ubuntu. I think this is a great idea, as proper support is instrumental in moving Linux to the mainstream. If this is anything like the Ubuntu forums, I think it will be a resounding success.
