It’s funny. If you’d asked me before today, Microsoft would have most likely got the first Razor Blade instead of the first Merit Badge. But, today is different. Microsoft actually did something right today. Something that actually has a benefit to people besides Microsoft (at least on the surface anyway). Microsoft announced the release of the XNA Game Studio to the world, which allows anyone to develop games for the Xbox 360 or Windows DirectX. Because of this, the Xbox 360 will be the first console to get official support for developing homebrew applications without the need to purchase seperate hardware. This is a huge step forward for the independent console game development community. For this act, I award Microsoft with today’s Merit Badge.
